Screen Flicker - Power regulator

Screen Flicker - Power regulator

HELP!

The screen on my G8 is starting to flicker.

Anybody having this problem?
If I take it back to Guitar workshop it will proably end up back in Japan which means I won't see the thing till for-Never.

Here's what I've done so far?

1. Not a lose connetion, I can't get the screen to flicker as I press a key.

2. No local EM. DAW display and power amp 2 feet away.

3. Checked the power and I'm getting a solid 112 Volts

4. I've been in the PC business for 20 years and I sure look like a power regulator in the display.

Since you have ruled out EMI my guess would be that the background light, probably a CCFL, is having trouble starting and reaching nominal operation. That would mean that it will have to be flickering from the very moment you power up the Fantom.

What happens if you leave it on for a loooong time or increase the room temperature (be sure to allow sufficient time for all the Fantom components to accomodate)?

What does it look like if you turn off all the lights in the room, close the curtains/blinds and then look from just below the screen level (so that you don't actually see the screen itself) and hold a piece of white paper above the screen? If you see the light reflected on the paper flicker the backlight is definitely your problem (ie this rules out a problem with the LCD itself or the LCD driver IC).

If you have a scope or spectrometer you could try looking at the 112V mains to see what's coming (presence of nasty harmonics or transients) in but I would expect the Fantom to have some decent mains filtering built into it.

never thought of the paper refelction test.

This falls under the heading of well it did make that noise before I brought the car into the delaership now it don't.

Earlier this week for 3 days straight I ran my G8 for at least 2 to 3 hours each night and that dam screen was just a flikerin'.

Now tonight eing well armed with some good suggestions that display is rock soild.

O'well Thanks again for the suggestions.

got too to many beers
