Negative reponse please do not kill this synth

you're right; Roland will improve this synth ... sadly, IMO, it will not be called Fantom-G ... I could be wrong ... anyway ... I'm sitting this one out for a while ... the first thing Roland needs to do is come out with an ARX board that somebody actually wants and likes ... yeah, I'm going to pay for a synth in which a large part of it's appeal lies in two worthless (ATM) expansion slots ...

enjoy what you have ... the Fan-G is still a good workstation ...

The sad thing about it is out of all the negative response this board is receiving, only about 10% of the complainers actually own board. I come from the software side and they will continue to improve a product but if we kill the product, they will have no choice but to abandon it. Remember the Fusion HD, I think it has turned out to be a great synth now but it is too late for it. A lot of potential buyers did not even realize that all the wave forms could be completely replaced.

sorry ... but the Fusion is NOT a GREAT synth (pretty hard to be one without the knobs or any other kind of innovative control surface) ... anyway ... it was marketed as a WORKstation ... in which it was a big FAIL ...

I don't have to BUY a synth to know it's not for me ... I've played the G many times over a several months-long period ... As a happy owner of a fully expanded Fan-X, it just doesn't grab me ...

anyway, like I've said before, I won't even consider the G — which I had really high hopes for unfortunately — before the inevitable V2 upgrade ... (I do not pay a company to be a beta-tester ... )

Anyway ... I hope this IMO deserved criticism results in a better product from Roland ... They should have waited another year or six months before bringing out the Fan-G ...

With roland marketing this as their "flagship" product, there better be some major improvments. I love my G6. I will hang onto it in hopes for some OS upgrades. Roland won't screw us..........................

I understand where you are coming from. Please do not mis-understand me. I am not saying you do not have a valid complaint. I just do not want to kill the board before it has a chance. The G is just like all other current generation workstations. They are nothing more than a dedicated computer and control surface running software. Coming from the software side, I'm sure you no that you are always a beta tester weather you no it or not. The G is no different. Developers try hard to come up with ways to give us new and inovated products that we all love. However, when something new is develop, there is always going to be a teething period. A Product will never get release if they continue to try fix every possible bug. There has to be a point in development where the product is ready enough to release. I just want the company to recognize the issues, listen to the complaints and work to resolve them. I do not want to run them out of business because I want them to continue to develop great products. Some of the other forums are just flat out bashing the G.

By the way, I disagree about the Fusion. I know it had a lot of bugs and the presets were not that great when it was release but it has been an outstanding sound source for me. I bought the Fusion 8HD brand new when GC was blowing them out and even got a new pair of monitors with it. At the current 2.24 OS version, it has been a solid board. I just feel sorry for the user who paid full price for it and the negative press killed their investment.

2 months and 1 week since the 1.10 hotfix.

I have beta tested software for a long time and it does take a while. Don't get me wrong, I really want these issues resolved fast too because I have already invested in the G. This is what prompted me to create the post.

I have a Fusion as well. I agree it's a "solid" board ... better than that actually ... you can get some nice tones out of it ...

But you said it was a "great synth" ... that's a little different ...

From a financial perspective, it would not make business sense to kill the FG, this early. First of all, Roland have invested in the FG (Development, Production, Marketing etc), and they will want to recoup their investment (+ more) or at least breakeven. In a slowing economic environment, company's do not tend to invest heavily in R&D / new products, rather they look for ways to manage their costs / maintain product lines or in Roland's case maintain the current product line - FG. Assuming I am right, for us FG owners I see this as positive as this means continued maintenance / more updates (more SRX sounds maybe ?) and hopefully investment in some "fancy" ARX boards..(which would cost less for Roland.

It would be interesting to know how FG sales v returns are going...

Well, I added the G to my aresnal, and I am very pleased with it. I never owned a Fantom X, or any Roland for that matter. When I tried the Fantom X, after several weeks, I walked away and ended up going with Korg synth. This was not the case with the G. For me the seemless patch change is worth the investment alone, but I like the other features too. So, despite the noise on the forums (unfortunately there is noise on the forums of every manufacturor about thier respective synth), I took the dive and am pleased that I did. So Roland gained at least 1 new customer here....

I totaly agree with Subpar, if you are a new Roland user (like us) the G is an incredible usefull, good sounding instrument, for home recording and on stage. Offcourse we hope that ARX boards will be continued.
I understand that if you own a Fantom X you don't feel the need to buy the G, but me as a Motif ES owner: I don't feel the need to buy an XS. Does that make it a bad instrument? I don't think so...
Every keyboard instrument has got strong and weak features, that's why most of us use two or more

I own Roland JV-1000 synth & workstation for about 13 years. It's my first synth. About 2 years after I got it, I bought 60's 70's expansion with Electric Pianos, Organs, Mellotrons etc.

I am working at home, composing & preforming onstage with theater ensemble.

I wanted to upgrade my abilities.
I was confused between FG 7 & Motif XS 7. I love some of XS acoustic sounds! For few months, I've been checking both of them.

In the end, last week, I ordered my FG 7 a week ago. Gonna get it on Sep-10.

I think that in the long term, it would give much more abilities in studio and live onstage. It has keypad controls, seamless sound skips, easy sequence to put ASAP your musical ideas, great sampler, some great sounds (some good, some less) etc. etc.

I'm not sure that if I had Fantom X, I would buy right now the G.
But, I think that all in all, for all of these needs, with all of its weakness - it's the best workstation out there today.

Though yep yep... I gotta do something better from those out of the box pianos... and that's a real shame!

From the very beginning even before it was released, it was noticed that this board was not upto all expectations, especially when one got hold of the manual and started to realize all that was missing...
compared to the X the G realy sucks it to you by showing you all that is better and then kicks you in the nts by taking away alll that was good from the X.
right now there is still alot of G v X that makes the X a better tool.
The X is now a mature product and does what you expect from a workstation.

The G is far from mature and has alot of obvious omissions that show this to be a rush to market job.

Thats okay that it was Rushed but what realy gets people is rolands communication with its customer base...

Just like the X, the G has a lot@! of potential but what will kill this synth is how long it takes roland to release this potential.

I feel tolerance level for this product should be no more than 4 months from release to get all omissions from the x to the G after that its really too long await and people should go elsewhere.
