I've had my FanG locked in the band truck or the practice studio playing every weekend for almost 2 months, so I've had minimal patch-creating opportunities. Thanks to some vacation time in July, I can finally start making things again. I've got about 350 cover songs I am trying to merge from 4 different synths into the G as much as possible in order to downsize my live rig. I would guess if you take out generic pianos, etc I need to create about 75 sounds on the G.
My biggest problem right now are acoustic pianos and brass. I've always hated the Fantom Pianos from both my X8 and G7. They sound great by themselves, but the moment I get them on stage they just don't bite without sounding sharp and tinny on top, or muddy on the bottom. Tweaking my main Piano sounds is always a never-ending affair that can only really be done at the gig.
There's a few "close" brass sections in there, but I'm still hunting and tweaking. The brass I hand-made 10+ years ago on my yamaha W5 had a nice little envelope giving it an initial bite and then a swell, with several trumpets, saxes and trombones stacked individually instead of using a complete sampled brass section. It's my bread-and-butter brass that I'll probably never be able to reproduce again unless I can multisample it somehow. I've always liked yamaha brass, so I'll probably never be satisfied. This may end up coming from my Yamaha EX5R module instead of the G.
I'm also on the quest for a vinyl-scratching solution that I now do with my yamaha W5, using a tape-rewind sample and mod wheel+key velocity to alter speed/pitch and pitch envelope. (wheel sets base pitch, velocity alters pitch envelope)
