Problem with 512mb DIMM

Problem with 512mb DIMM

9 Jul 2008, 16:40
so i just bought a DIMM card from smiletango on ebay and loaded it all up on my G8, checked that it was working in the system menu and it shows 550mb or whatever of total memory but when i go to save a sample over 50mb it says sample memory full? Is it supposed to work this way? The memory thing says i have 550mb free for sampling data, why does it do this after only 50? TIA

The RAM you have is just a temporary area like RAM on your computer. To actually SAVE your data, you need a USB flash drive.

Hi,

I've received mine from smilentango too but it doesn't work :(
512Mb PC133 3.3v 168pin Unbuffered Non Ecc.

Now, i don't know what the malfunction is due for...whether it's because i chose the wrong memory or it's because i got a damaged chip.

Maybe one of you who purchased that memory from smilentango (with good results) could help me. It would be very useful if you could tell me from what link was made your buy. Mine was:

Item title: 512 MB 133Mhz SDRAM PC133 DIMM 133 512MB 168PIN NEW RAM
Item number: 310062962145
Memory Brand : SnT LIFETIME (the chips inside says lei LES64408TA-7, i've googled it and i think that it meets the G's specifications)

Another thing to take into account: when i switched on the G, it showed a blue screen that said to turn off the G and check the DIMM.

Any help would be very appreciate, thanks!

I got one from them the other day and the specs sounds right. Mine worked without a problem. Are you sure it's seated all the way (with the white tabs clicked in)?

Yes, i've done the entire proccess three times, the DIMM is seated all the way down with no problems and the white tabs are in the correct position. The same result in all the cases: blue screen when switching on the G.

Could you give to me your Item Number for comparing with mine's?

I'm frustrated...the GX Series have to wait :(

mine did that one time too, i just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and made sure i pressed it all the way in firmly across the whole board and it worked then...

back to my question, i also have a 2G usb plugged in the back and it still said memory full... what is the point of upgrading to a 512mb DIMM memory if you cant save anything to it?

Well, i'll repeat the proccess tonight again...but i'm afraid that the DIMM is damaged.

Edit: checked again, same results. I'll return the DIMM or perhaps I'll buy another one (due to the shipping costs compared to the memory price)

Ditto with memory problems

I too have upgraded the memory to 544MB and it shows under the info tab, but when I try to import an .AIFF file that is 50mb in size, it says that the import was successful but when I try to save the sample, it says 'memory full.'

Also, the sound on the imported file is just a bunch of static.

I have a 4GB flash drive plugged in. I had no problem pulling some midi files and the AIFF file from my laptop to the thumbdrive and the G7 recognizes the files.

if you can resample and auto trig a song thats 3+ minutes AND normalize it. your ram is working.

Have you checked where your current project is located (internal memory or USB)? If it's in internal memory, try to 'save as...' to the usb stick, unload your project and load it again, this time from usb. That solves to me a lot when saving samples to the project.

now i have a different problem, i deleted all my other samples and i STILL cant save this 12.6MB file, it says memory full. when i check the memory info screen it shows 99% free on both USB and DIMM but 12.2 free on user, how do i get it to save it on USB or DIMM rather than 'user' memory?

another thing i just noticed that is weird... so when i got the keyboard i deleted all the preloaded samples with the girls voice saying aaaaah and oooooh and all that crap... when i start the keyboard with the USB already plugged in the back it shows they are all still there but all my songs are gone, then when i start it without the drive all my songs are there but the samples are gone. my background picture also changes... is this normal? does the USB need to be plugged in when you turn the board on for the memory to work or what?

Ram is just for sampling(temperory), not for saving stuff! This applies to all keyboard.
The thing i hate most about forum is the fact that some morons have some long signature that is wasting my time reading.

ok, i understand that... but how do i save it to USB, it wont allow me unless i start the board up with the USB already plugged in the back and then it changes everything!
