Fantom X vs Fantom G
28 May 2008, 07:01I mentioned yesterday that I'm thinking about picking up a used X7 in good shape for gigging with (and to replace my Juno G most likely). I'll max it out with sample RAM and SRX boards and throw it in my rig.
Are the X and G pretty much the same as far as usage is concerned, or am I going to have to learn an entirely new instrument in the X? The G is amazingly simple to learn (except the Arpeggiator and Sequencer, which I've not learned how to use yet) and use, but that mega-screen really helps. I'm a little concerned that the older OS and smaller screen on the X, coupled with the lacking of new G features might make it a little tougher to use.
Are the sampling capabilities pretty much the same as on the G? I'd like to have 2 Fantoms to use so I can trigger samples on one and play patches on the other. (Yeah, I realize that you can trigger samples and then play sounds on the board at the same time, but I haven't figure out how to tweak the volume level of the playing sample independently of the sound I'm playing yet.)
Thanks for the insight.
