very straightforward question about the MC 808

Hi everyone, sorry to ask simple questions but I was unable to answer these by carefully reading the manual online

I'm considering buying an 808 or 909 because I like the groovebox format (505 user) and would love to have sampling capability.

1 On the 808, is it possible to change waveforms for a tone while in patch mode without the editor? I did not see a mention of this in the manual, and if not it seems impossible to significantly change a sound without the editor.

2 On the 808 or 909, is it possible to create a patch that uses user samples for some tones and waves from the ROM for the other tones?

Thanks so much

t

Hi t,

lets answer your questions:

1) No. To change the waveform on the mc-808 you need the software editor. If you want to do serious sound programming you are bound to the software editor. What you can do is changing the envelopes, cutoff and resonance, lfo type and speed. To be serious, the machine has such a lot of sound parameters that editing on the machine with the small ascii display would be a real pain.

2) You can mix rom and ram waveforms as you want to. The difference between ROM and RAM waveforms is, that ROM waveforms can be multisamples (most are) and RAM waveforms are simple samples. When download the editor add on (written by some users here) you can limit singe tones to a note range.

Hope this helps,

Ciao, Dirk.

Thanks

Said beastie is downloaded and installed.

So if you'll excuse me I must now go fight him.
Thanks Dirk!

While the Ascii display is small, I think it would still be simple with a little practice. On the 505 there are tons of menus to navigate with a similar small screen, but after a while it became second nature.

I'll probably go with a 909.
