nil,
Many thanks for that. Yes, it looked like the carrier had shipped it all round the world and back - twice! I guess the sheer weight of the 8 makes it liable to sustain a lot of knocks.

Pads. What do you think about the pads? Are they a step backwards from the X in terms of sensitivity and usefulness like a lot of new owners are saying?

I can't really say how the pads compare to the X since I never had an X, i went straight from the A90EX (that I got in 1997) to the G8. The A90 has no pads, and now I have pads, so I'm pretty happy. They do seem to take a surprising amount of force to get full volume, but I'm ok with that.

What specifically don't some people like about the G8's pads?

Fantom X pads aren't as sensitive as they might be and some new G owners seem to be saying the pads aren't as good as those on the X, ie. it's a step backwards. I'll be getting a G6 sometime in the future but of course I'm watching feedback here to see what the new owners feel in terms of the G being a step change on the X. So far the sounds get a big thumbs up, which is good enough reason for me to upgrade anyway, but it's as well to know about any areas where the X was better.

great video

i can relate as i just got my G8 yesterday
its my first hardware keyboard since i bought an M1 lo those many decades ago.
so i can be of no discernible help to those with comparison questions as regards the X series (sorry)

i can say the sound of this keyboard is quite good indeed, the weighted keys are lovely though admittedly i am no keyboard player (bass guitar)
as a songwriter this board is inspiring and i am more than thrilled with
my decision to get one.

i will report back with more detail as i become more familiar with this
sonic beast!

peace,

jenkzy
So I can tell you now that there are three different sensitivity levels for the pads. I can't really tell much difference between the two, but you also have the option to set them to always generate a specific velocity which lets you use a much lighter touch to get a loud sound -- though you lose touch sensitivity.

I'm thinking about putting together a second video, but I'm running out of weekend now.

shipping..
