Live performance issue...

Live performance issue...

2 Feb 2008, 21:59
I'm not sure what happened, but I was using my 808 during a live performance and at the beginning of one song with only 3 tracks... the three tracks began playing totally out of sync with each other... the timing was just OFF! It happened multiple times that evening. I had to turn the machine on and off to fix it, but i'm not sure what even happened, nor can i recreate it. I'm still relatively new to the machine... anyone have any ideas how two tracks that were previously in beat with each other, would randomly play out of tempo with each other?

I'm a little afraid to use it on stage again, although it's not happened again at home...

Any potential causes / explanations would be much appreciated.

Thanks!
Derek

It doesn't work on stage, but it works fine at home....mmmm, looks like the stage bug is active again!
Anyhow I don't know the 808, but being an ICT consultant I know abouw debugging: be sure to test it at home exactly in the same setup: every midi device, same cables, same PC running in the same mode, same sounds selected. Bang and shake the device the way you do on stage... good luck!
My honest opinion without analysis: I think it's broke ;-)

Did any of the songs use samples? If so, not being set to Auto Sync (or possibly hitting the button by mistake) could have caused the problem.

I have heard of equipment running badly due to night clubs having bad wiring, or some bad device connected on the same line. But you may also have had a midi feed back loop. If you explain your setup maybe the midi feedback loop can be ruled out.
