Cubase, Sonar, Ableton Live

Basically any DAW sequencing package should work. There are probably some free ones if you search the net.

Connect using a usb cable from your fantom to PC with the Fantom set to MIDI as opposed to STORAGE.

Once connected the DAW should have a MIDI setup menu which will let you choose the Fantom as the MIDI device

This assumes that you are using windows XP or WIN2K

Linux has its own DAW packages but you would connect just the same

If you dont have a soundcard that is good for recording. And are looking to buy one. Some come with software as well. I have been lookin at the lexicon usb interfaces which i believe come with cubase le. And are between $100-200.

Simply connect using USB. Install Appropriate Driver ( ver 1.05 ). Your sequencer will recognized fantom as a midi controller and as a sound module.

DONE ? :)

im using Cubase 4, its lovely. Not.

Return the midi sport. the Fantom usb will get u midi data. And the fantom midi works awesomely. so you can sequence and control your your your fantom with that. The part you might buy is an audio interface for is for recording the actual sound that the fantom makes. For that you need to run the fantoms audio outputs into a soundcard. You can use your stock soundcard. Which is what I am currently doing but that leaves me with only a mono input. for better quality and better audio processing on your pc you might want a soundcard that is made for recording music. Also if you have no software like a pc based multitrack recorder some interfaces come with a slimmed down version of one of the major DAWs(cubase or sonar). for example
http://www.zzounds.com/item--LEXALPHA that would allow you to record from the stereo outputs from your fantom and will give you a copy of cubase LE. I havnt used that card specifically but in about a month I am pretty sure I am going to get its big brother the Omega interface.
