Hello PhlStl,

Welcome to the Roland Clan.

Why buy midi files when there are many quality files of all genres available for free? No matter where you get them, you will have to tweak the files when you load them into your workstation in order to get the right patches assigned, etc..

Let us know what type of files you're looking for. . . . . . .Top 40, Dance, Rock, Funk, Hip Hop. . . . . maybe someone will know a good source.

When I can't find good quality files from the free sources, I check www.midi-hits.com A little pricey at about $9 per song, but they have excellent quality.

I use nothing but midi files to run a backup band feeding a fantom XR and have found the online free ones are just as good if not better than anything you pay for. Just download them and edit them as needed.

good way to start with google ---> "song title" or "partial title" midi

I generally go into google and type the next line as the search string (including speech marks):

"band or artist" "(part or all)title" MIDI

eg "Kate Bush" "wuthering" MIDI

That'll be me not spotting someone's already said the same thing, then. ;o/

thanks to all for replying, i'll give them all a try!
I'm currently practicing for a stand-in with a cover band, plays a variety of rock/dance 80's/90's mix mostly.
I'd like to get a duo w/guitar up and running soon, so time/$/ease of use all are important!
Any, this forum is a great idea!
Thanks, again

My band uses backing tracks played through my Fantom X6 via the PA, but we route drums (Ch 10) separately to an amp sitting where a drummer would usually sit. Over time I've tried various excellent commercial sites and would recommend:

Trantracks (The best - particularly the Arranger series which can be stunningly real)
Bandtrax
Elite
Comtracks

A note of caution! Surfing the net for midi files is an easy way of getting popups, torjans and god knows what else. 'Midi' is a common search term used by these swines to attract the unwary into downloads. I would strongly recommend you only use proper enterprises, like those mentioned above.
