MC 808 or RS7000

Can anybody tell me why I should buy one over the other? First off, I don't want another MC 909, way too big. The RS7000 is probably too big too, that's why I'm leaning towards the MC 808. My biggest concerns with the 808 are being reliant on the computer to do editing. How much sample editing can you do on the 808 without using a computer? I've done a lot of research, but Roland really tries to hide the details, especially with Mike Acostas deceptive booth demo. Not saying it was his doing, but Roland flat out pulled the wool over customers eyes with that one. I'm referring to the sample chop fiasco in case you're wondering. I used to have an SP606. Can I do as much editing onboard the 808 as I could on board the 606? Can the motorized faders be operated manually in case the motor dies? Where are the onboard patches on the 808 derived from? What type of soundset is it. I'm getting a JV 1080 and loading up the expansion slots so I want to get expansions that are different than the what's already on the 808. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have no experience with the 808, but I do own the rs7000. In regards to sample editing, be aware that it is very limited on the rs7000; no multisampling and no crossfade looping, for instance. What is beatiful with its sampler, however, is the way it's integrated with the sequencer; if you want to resample a phrase, just specify the correct sampling procedure ("kit+note"), and it automatically places the sample at the correct place in the sequence.

The rs7000 also has some pretty awesome other stuff as well. The synth section isn't stellar, but it's not bad either. Drum kits are awesome, as are the effects (only 1 variation, though). Two midi outs.

The unit is pretty big, but not at all too big (well, not for me anyways). When I use it, I actually have it on my lap. Which is of course the only way to make music ;)

Hi supermel,

pls. have a look at the mc-808-faq as some of your questions are answered there. Also you should download the manual as pdf and read carefully.

The sounds: The mc-808 has the xv engine but a fresh and very different sample/sound set. Go in a shop and test them in the context of the different patterns.

Ciao, Dirk.

Well, I won't say too much but I think you would be ALOT happier with an RS-7000.....
