Multisampling with Juno-G? YES! Rythm set

Multisampling with Juno-G? YES! Rythm set

So the Juno-G is not a multi-sampler right? Wrong.
All of it's rythm sets (drum kits) are multi-samples in 4 velocity layers and editable, right? So there you go.

So how do I stick a Steinway piano in there?
Simple: import all wav samples into the card, and in your Rythm Set, manually (note-by-note) assign the 4 samples and split them in diferent velocity levels. The result won't be a PATCH, but rather a Rythm Set, but who cares? As long as it plays beautifully.

I'll try this with this 63-key 4-velocity Steinway samples I have here and, when I'm finished, I'll record a demo and post back here.

Stay tuned. ;-)

(thanks for Vinicius for the brilliant idea)

Hi Matias,

Sounds great man !!!,
I can't wait to hear if you've done it.
And if you did, please tell me all about how to and what
I need to do the same, for instance with a real Rhodes.

Best regards,
Adje,
The Netherlands.

I came up with this idea when the Juno appeared... But I am just too lazy for this ;-)

I dont think its worth it. Over the years I've come to realise that doing certain things in the Fantom S/X is not worth the time spent. For example, I mapped 10 patches from the Roland Ultimate Strings library to fantom S (since the converter didnt work properly at that time). Took me about 8+ hours and more than 400 button presses. In the end, it sounded okay, but I simply erased everything because it wasnt worth the 100MB space it took to load 10 patches.

Enter Gigastudio 3. Did I mention it changed my world? 4 layered, multi-velocity strings patches loaded within 2 seconds. I could load the entire library probably within a minute, and still have RAM left over for everything else I wanted. This would be impossible in the Fantom S.

Lesson learnt : Yeah, the rhtyhm kit thing is there. But you'd be foolish to pursue it. If you want a piano patch, hit one up in the computer, or modify the existing piano patches. In the other hand, if you're constructing individual chops from a loop, the ryhtm kit would be a great way to use it. See where I'm going?

I understand what you mean. I just finished loading up 250Mb of samples in it, 3 hours later all waveforms are attached to their notes. It took a lot of labour.

Does it sound good? Yes and no. Better than stock stuff that came with the board. But still not so perfectly rounded as a SRX patch.

3 hours man. I'm really tired right now. Here's the patch playing the default Purgatory Creek's MIDI file:

Sounds pretty good coming from the Juno G. But like I said, I have the (same?) Akai Ultimate Grands (256 MB pianos) and they load within 5 seconds in gigastudio. This would have been a good project to demonstrate how you CAN load impressive multisamples in the Juno G, when you're forced into a prison cell in azhkaban and your life depends on creating multisamples for the Juno G. If you're not in that situation, you'd be better off spending your time and money on software samplers. :-P

Totally agree

For home use, I'll use a Best Service Galaxy Steinway 5.1. What a beautiful piano! 1.5Gb for stereo sample though...

But for rehearsal and gigging, where PC is not an option, this multi-sample will do fine.

Great work Matias!

As you have seen, we came up with some ideas to "multisample" on the Juno, and I actually did some experiments, but I think you're the first one that does it so seriously...

Three hours of work is not that much... because a patch lasts forever. The loading time is a bit high, but this is not your fault! :)

The results is good, I would add some low fequencies to "fatten" the sound a little bit. Anyway, great work again!
