Playing live with a song

Hi,

I have a band where we play to a lot of sequenced tracks. I've read about how the Phantom's performance mode is designed for live playing but I'm puzzled how you're supposed to play live to sequenced data. It seems that there aren't any means to assign favourites etc. I've resorted to playing in Mixer mode and moving the highlight from one channel to the next to select an instrument. There has to be a better way than this? What if I want to play split keys etc with live sequenced data, then change patches / split quickly. I can't change performance or this will screw up the sequence...

Any tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Hi,

It's a very interesting theme for me, too. What is the best way to use Fantom (S in my case) for live playing with a song ? Is there any chance to change split/layer in the same performance during the song?
Maybe someone with good know-how could help?

Hello. I found the following solution for this question. First I suggest you reorder tracks(parts) in your song in order to leave first 3-4 parts free, and resave song.(supposing your song doesn't use all 16 parts). Then you assign all the patches that must be sound simultaneously to the first 3-4 parts(you can use splits etc) - and save the performance(N1). Then change necessary patches (not modifing the parts used by the song) - and save the second performance(N2).. So you get several performances per one song, which can be switched during the song playback and don't affect the song. How to quickly switch between performances, this is another problem. You can use "favourites" for example and the up and down cursor keys in favourite list.

Another Idea is to put Programm Changes, in the Tracks (Patches you play Live), included Volume Sysex and so on, at the desired Position in the Song.
But recognize, the Fantom isnt so fast and need some Time for Switching Sounds.

Hello,
Thanks for your responses. I would try the idea with Program Changes. Mickphilips, could you explain in details how it works and how are these messages (with Sysex ?). For example, in song's performance I have parts 1-3 as a split/layer for live playing during a verse of the song and I need other split/layer combination for a chorus.
Is there any helping booklet on this theme ?

Greetings,
Mac

Put in SYSEX

Sorry, my Fantom is on Band Truck, so I cant get in Details without Hands on Fantom. But, in the "Micro Edit" Modus, by Song-Track Edit, you can put in desired Messages as Programm Changes and so on, in the desired Tracks. Record an pure Track, only play maybe one Tone in the Track at the End. Then got to Micro Edit, surch the Position where you will put in the Programms and do it there. After all done, cut out that played single Tone, thats it.

Hope I tell the "right Story" without Fantom by Hand. Or search here in the Forum for Threads about that Theme (use the Utility Search Function), I am sure there are a lot of it.

Sysex to put

I'll try to follow your description. Well, it's time for me to learn more about Sysex.

Have you tried my method of using RPS in conjunction with Patterns to do quick switches of for instance Choruses and Verses? This method should also be usable with an SVQ which is playing.

Check it out over here.
