Number of sounds Fantom & Fantom EX

I think the numbers are misleading. I assume that the 7000 sounds include many expansions that are available for free from Roland Cloud, even if these expansions are not pre-installed. Most of the expansions are also available for the non-EX Fantom.

I guess that the expansions that are only available (for free) for the Fantom EX add at most 1000 sounds.

However, I think so, too. They might sum up all the sounds available for the Fantom up to now...otherwise it doesn´t make sense. Having imported all sounds, the cry for a libririan is getting louder. I´ll wait for NAMM 2026 before I´m gonna purchase the Fantom again. Maybe there´ll be an OS 2.0 update ;) I briefly thought about buying the new ModX m, but it´s definitely going to be the Fantom now.

One fine day, I decided to catalog all Zen Core and model Banks sounds avaliable for the Fantom. I didn't catalog the Expansion patches, by the way.
On 150 Zen Core Sound Banks, there are 3295 patches and 128 drum kits. While, for Model Banks (JP-8, JX-8P, SH-101, Juno 106 and ID-800) there are just 32 patches for SH-101, 96 patches for JD-800, 128 patches for Jupiter 8, 160 patches for JX-8P and 64 patches for Juno 106. In total 480 patches.

All that said, I'm suspecting there's no enough space on the Fantom EX to house all these different patches... Again, Roland created a crippled instrument.

Well, I guess XP30 is right. Summarize your sounds with all the available 150+ sound packs (which is over 3500 sounds total), you easily get 7000+ sounds for your Fantom (EX). As far as I can remember, there´s space for 2048 extra ZEN Core sounds and 512 for model expansions and 512 for ACB expansions...

so, the Fantom can house those 7000+ sounds, but not all the ZEN Core sound packs if necessary.

And this confirms what I initally thought... Anyway, as I stated since the beginning, Fantom needs a librarian to keep User patches organised, but Roland is deaf.

Well, I´m still wondering. I´ve checked different shops and the Roland website again: it definitely says for the Fantom EX " over 7000 internal sounds " - INTERNAL. So this must mean that there are NEW sounds included compared to the Fantom 2019. I wrote Roland and am waiting for an answer. If it houses more than 7000 internal sounds it might be (big) reason for purchasing the Hardware EX instead of upgrading...we´ll see :)

Well, Roland Support is not answering, it´s been seven days...maybe they even don´t know by themselves where those 3500 extra sounds come from :( so, another reason not to buy the EX hardware version, but the "normal" Fantom and upgrade it...

So...I bought a Fantom 6 (again) and upgraded it to EX. What can I say? You really get about a 7000 sounds when you include all the FREE expansions available for Fantom EX (i.e. ACB/Model/SNA/and Wave-Expansions)! So they simply must be all preinstalled on the Hardware EX Version. And the most interesting part: these free expansions don´t eat up ANY user slots!

That means there is still plenty of user slots available in the EX:
- 2048 Z-Core user slots
- 1024 ACB user slots
- 1024 models user slots
- 128 VPno user slots
- 256 SN-A user slots
- 128 SN-AP user slots

That means the Fantom EX can house OVER 11600 sounds maximum, which is quite impressive!!


And it also means that there are currently 150 SDZ Sound Packs on Roland Cloud available, which is another NEW 3200 sounds :O (BUT: only 2024 of them can be installed).

To put it in a nuthsell: the Fantom EX is quite a beast when it comes to sounds and I´m a very happy owner :)
