Roland announced today the RD-88 EX: https://www.roland.com/global/products/rd-88_ex/

The RD-88 EX is to the RD-88 what the Fantom EX is to the Fantom: Basically the same hardware as the non-EX version (except for the EX label). It has a the third SN-AP expansion pre-installed. The non-EX version can be upgraded to the EX version via a paid upgrade.

The RD-88 EX Upgrade for the RD-88 is available in the Roland Cloud Manager. It costs 99 USD.

The most recent price of the RD-88 plus the Upgrade is likely less than the current price of the RD-88 EX. For example, Andertons in the UK lists both, the RD-88 for 989 GBP and the RD-88 EX for 1199 GBP. Some people might find the price difference surprising. It does not mean that there is any difference between the RD-88 + Upgrade and the RD-88 EX. It just means that there are enough people who will pay extra for getting the same thing because of the EX sticker.
