MC-101 (1.81): No transpose when in Scale mode

As soon as I select a scale (SHIFT+NOTE, SCALE), the transpose function (NOTE+PAD, to set the root note) has absolutely no effect.
I have already done a factory reset, with no change.
Not long ago, this all worked. It is, after all, the only way to get beyond a single octave when playing with the pads.
Any ideas how to fix this? Maybe this is a bug introduced with 1.81?
