The same freely assignable triple MFX system of the Juno DS that we're talking about was also in the Fantom X and the XV-5080
I don't think the XV-5080 had flexible MFX like the Juno DS.

The Fantom-X does not seem very different in this aspect as well.

Hmmm... When I check those manuals, I see this...

XV-5080:
"you can use three different MFX systems when in Performance mode, and use each MFX on any Part you select." (p. 11, with more detail on p. 30)

Fantom X:
'The three multi-effects can be used independently, or you can connect two or three of them in series." (p. 210) and the screen shot shows you can route a single part to 1, 2, or all 3 of the MFX, to whatever degree you want.

I should have also mentioned that the Juno DS implementation is more flexible, in that you can arrange the 3 MFX in more different ways (different combinations of serial vs. parallel and/or in different orders), but any of these boards let you freely assign the 3 MFX among the multiple sounds in a Performance, including stacking all 3 MFX on a single sound.

The XV-5080 is no different than the JV-2080.
You can use one MFX per part, and there are 3 MFX to choose from in Performance mode, with no extra routing structures between MFX1-3.

OTOH, as per page 215, the Fantom-X has the same MFX structures as the Juno-DS indeed.
Structure Type
Specify how MFX1—3 will be connected.
Value: Type 01—Type 16
My bad on this one. The plot thickens!

Interesting. I don't know anything about the 2080, but when I read in the 5080 manual that "you can use three different MFX systems when in Performance mode, and use each MFX on any Part you select," I assumed that I could indeed use each MFX in any Part I selected, i.e. that it didn't have to be a Part that didn't already have an effect, and that therefore, it would be possible to put all three effects on the same Part. I guess not? (I didn't expect different routing possibilities, I figured there would be a fixed routing, but you'd still have 3 fx on the one part.)

Ah, I missed that! In fact, I was surprised to NOT see something like that since, as I said, my understanding was that the Juno was derived from that earlier Fantom architecture.

No, you can't.

See: https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/roland-xv-jv-power-user-tips-part-3 from "Performance Effects".
All the discussion there about routing of effects is based on the JV-1080, which only has 1 effect available. There is mention of the JV-2080 having three, but no discussion (unless I missed it) about what you can or can't do with those three. But just out of curiousity, I checked the JV-2080 manual, and yes, p.29 does say "the patches which are assigned to the Parts selected by 'EFX A-C--Source' must each use different EFX selections."

But my question was not about JV-2080, rather about the XV-5080. And indeed you're right, you can't gang up effects on one part on the XV-5080 either. It's not clear from the manual, but I found a Roland XV-5080 Q&A document that has this:
Q: Three Multi-effects processors can be used in Performance mode, but can they be used in series?
A:
No.
In Performance mode, the outputs of the Parts are input to the three Multi-effects in parallel. For example, you could do something like setting the output of Parts 1 and 2 to M-FX A, the outputs of Parts 3 and 4 to M-FX B, the output of Part 5 to M-FX C, and connect the other parts directly to the outputs, bypassing the Multi-effects.

I was pointing at the « raison d'être » of the multiple EFX/MFX in Performance mode as a way to preserve the sound of some patches that relies heavily on the choosen insert effect. It was never intended as a flexible multi-FX engine until the Fantom-X /Juno DS.
Which most likely required a dedicated DSP, just like the JV-2080 has one compared to the rest of the JV-1080 line.

The fact it did'nt make it to the ZEN-Core emulation is interesting, still.
But we know it's a flexible architecture that can be expanded, and can be dedicated to a single DSP if needed (Part 1 on the JP-X/m, Zone 1 or 2 on the Fantom).
