Fantom ... next OS

Hi there,

I would like to give some feedback on the Fantom 8 Synthesizer Sequencer which I feel would greatly improve the user experience even further, perhaps in firmware version 2.5 when it gets released?????

1) Allow song import (SMF) of “unlimited amount of measures” from Logic Pro X into the Fantom 8 sequencer up to 16 tracks.
2) Allow import (SMF) of song tempo changes, both sudden and gradual I.e. tempo gradients (linear and non-linear).
3) Allow import (SMF) of song tempo changes, both simple and compound at any position within the song.
4) Allow import of up to 10 minutes of audio sampling at 48kHz, 24bit. This should cater for most pop/prog rock songs.
5) Allow audio to be elastic to perfectly synchronise with song tempo, time signature changes within the sequencer.
6) Add a very high quality vocal harmoniser to improve efficiency of song input into sequencer.
7) Adjustable pivot Foot pedal should be able to modulate the tempo for added musical expression in a live scenario whilst the sequencer is playing. Allow to over-ride the sequencer SMF inputted song tempo utilising the foot pedal.
8) Allow arpeggiator to have different patterns on each of the 16 tracks and create more variations.
9) Fantom Apple Mac editor to be created to enable song sequencer input, sound design manipulation in “real-time” rather than writing tones and importing them.

I think that now completes my feedback.

I hope that these changes come soon and that this gets passed onto to your software guys?

Regards,

Phill McMurtry

There are a lot of small minor tweaks that would make a big difference. For example, using the pads in Note mode, you can literally save only one set of 16 note numbers for the entire board. That's insane. Sure, you can pick a different kit for each scene, but you have to use the same note numbers for each scene. Want the kick drum on Pad 13 in one scene but have a triangle on Pad 13 in another scene? Can't do it. Saving Note Pad per Scene couldn't possibly take up that much memory. C'mon Roland!

There are plenty more examples like this, which is frustrating because that's not asking for a new feature or a new function. Just improve the functionality of what's already there.

I really like to have time streching with the samples in order to adapt the tempo of some rythem pattern.
Having User arpeggio is a minimum, the current Arpeggio is a chao, we don't know if we will be able to find the loop we are looking for.
to have 2-3 differents arpegio/ scene
Hane long midi file.
Ideally more scene preset. The current one (256) doesn't reflect the performance of what this machine can do. when you campoare with The preset from a Kronos, you can really have fun with loops, apreggio that match with the song etc......

Really looking nforward for the next improvements (patch)

I think you can do it by making a group.
You have A to H and 1 to 16 for patterns and then can make with any mixture of them as many as 16 groups (1 to 8 shown on the first page, scroll down to reach 9-16).

So imagine you want to mix A1, A2, B3, B4, C5, H6 and make a group lasting 6 measures.
Select those patterns by pressing on them one by one until you get a triangle on each. Press pattern, grouping, choose the number of the group on the left, confirm YES when asked if you are sure, then press either pattern twice and then group within the screen or press once the group button, and move the dial to change the length from 1 to 6. Save the scene.

But the manual explains it much better....
Of course, unboxing and making music is funny and you can play and see how far you can get without looking at the instructions, for added fun.

Not an equal alternative, but increasing the number of groups from 16 to 32 would be helpful in reducing some of the limitations of the 8 X 16 pattern structure. Chain song play would be great as well. The ability to save your own effects presets in the Audio Input menu, instead of just one setting would be golden, however, I have to double check and see if this can be done on a scene by scene basis.

Please, could you make the ”Waveform Invert Sw” -parameter available for samples as well!?!?
Please!!!

From my point of view: DRAW BAR ORGAN and TIME STRETCH of samples are a must in high end workstations and belong to most important and urgend features to be updated.

Yes! This so much! We NEED time stretch!!!

Do we have chance to get TIME STRETCH for sampling? After 1,5 years of multisampling function (2.0 update Sept. 2020) still a big relevant issue, and crucial basic function in high-end workstation, IMHO.

Besides, REVERB for MFX Tone / Zone effect would be VERY VERY useful...

If I am understanding correctly, you want reverb on the tone and on the zone ?

Well...

MFX affects the tone via each partial...OUTPUT...DRY/MFX.
So set each partial you want to go via MFX and then set a reverb effect.

IFX affects the zone. Choose the reverb effect and go serial or parallel (IFX1-IFX2).

TFX affects the whole Fantom...

When using IFX , several zones can be routed or disengaged easily via SHIFT+EFFECTS(PARAM)...

Thanks for reply.

But as far a I understand, there´s no REVERB effect applied to particular Tone / Zone, no REVERB as part of the 90+ MFXs. So you cannot apply MFX REVERB with all the REVERB settings to one Tone particularly whereas the other Tones / Zones dont´t get this MFX REVERB effect.

There´s only global REVERB effect which can be dry / full / sth inbetween for each Tone / Zone, but it is the same effect for all, the REVERB settings are the same for all; only the amount of this can be modified for each Zone / Tone.

Maybe I don´t see everything (?).

In theory, if you need that 2nd reverb really hard, you could route your zone to a sub out and use a short patch cable to connect that to the mix/line input, which has its own reverb. This is also the trick to get a zone as a modulator for the vocoder.
