Saving samples into recordings

Saving samples into recordings

I just want to double check.... there's no way to integrate the samples into a stereo mix (or other type of export) where it's synchronized with the rest of your song, right? I know there's some export all tracks and/or samples, but I'd like to actually integrate the sample into the exported song. Does that make sense?

Yes, i guess that would be possible -- i haven't tried this sort of thing. Better get the mix right the first time i guess!

Hey blotchy,

Haven't done much here in that regards. I assume when you say "it's synchronized with the rest of your song" I assume you are talking about something in the sequencer that you have recorded? If so you can trigger samples on track 16 while recording, so that when you play back your song the samples also play exactly where you wanted them. I think you are limited to being able to trigger/have playing 4 samples max at one time.

Once the song is complete with your samples you can either play it back and re-sample the song INTO a sample, or you can export it to a WAV file with the samples playing as you wanted.

Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure this is all possible!

Thanks i knew there was something special with Track 16 -- at least with its default type. That sounds promising and I'll try it out. I guess i just make track 16 my current track, hit the record button, and start the sample playing? Then can hopefully nudge it one way or the other (it's a drum track i'm trying to add).

Hey blotchy,

As I said before, I haven't actually done this yet... just through reading the manual and hearing others talk about it over the years on this forum.

I'm pretty sure once you start recording you can use either the PAD buttons to trigger samples, or the keys on the keyboard. Each sample is mapped directly to an actual key, starting down on C1 or something like that. The PADs make it easy to trigger samples, but the keys allow you to trigger them with velocity sensitivity (which may or may not be a good thing for what you're doing).

Anyways, good luck playing around with it... that's really the best part of all of this: Getting a bit of a direction and then fooling around to figure things out! Cheers and stay healthy!

Hi again,

Can you clarify what it is you are trying to do?

You have a drum track...what format/length is it? Is it a loop or a full song? What other equipment do you have to play the drum track on? Where/how did you get it?

Do you want to end up with a complete finished song on the FA06, or do you want the drums track playing continuous and you just play 'live' on the FA06 using the drum track as an accompaniment. Do you have other 'recorded' tracks playing as well?

If you use the keyboard to trigger the sample ( which you have loaded into a pad) it will trigger it firing and the position it is trigger is recorded onto the track so will play automatically in the future. The position of the 'trigger' can be moved/nudged using the editing tools, to get it exactly right. You may (probably will) encounter time differences/lag between the audio recording and the midi timing if the sample is a long one

Me again,

Let me clarify. If you export your song on the FA06 (which has a sample played or embedded in it) as a WAV file it DOES NOT include the sample! The sample only plays via the normal sound out audio, not via export.Do not waste you time pursuing that approach.

Hey 9blackoranges,

Thanks for the clarification. I am correct though in that he can play the sequence with samples into the sampler and then export the song as a WAV file?

No.

Samples in/on the pads ONLY play via the usual audio outputs.

If you export a song it does not export it with any samples/pads therein. I have just double checked/tried it and can confirm it does not do it. It has exported the song but with none of the samples in it.

Thanks everyone. I had various tracks already recorded -- and had an mp3 of a drum beat that was OK. It runs a little short, maybe a minute, but ii figured i could copy segments forward on the track to fill out how much i want.
I'm vaguely aware i can cut it down to its shortest unique length and put it in a loop, though I haven't played with that yet.

In any case, thanks for confirming no export including the sample will work (except i think you can export the samples separately).

9blackorange.. you seem to be missing what I'm asking. I'm not talking about exporting. I'm talking about the sampler being able to create a sample based on anything being played internally. So if he were to play his sequence and sample it, the sequence with his samples would end up into that new sample which he then could export as a WAV... I'm not talking about exporting the sequence but a sample MADE of the sequence

Hi again Blotchy,

Yes you can Import an MP3 drum rhythm of 1 minute duration into a pad and have it play back alongside the existing pre-recorded tracks. Once its there you can trim start and finish points. I doubt if its timing will match the timing in your existing track for a whole minute. You can chop it into loops but thats likely to be a bit messy sound wise with 'blips/gaps' between each segment as the tools in the sampler are not sophisticated. You would have to trigger each segment using the appropriate key for that pad number on the keyboard keyboard and record the action. Then you would need to use the edit tools to go into the tracks midi recording and shuffle it forward/backward etc. to try to get it to match your other tracks timing.

To be honest I think what you are trying to do is a lot of hard work just to use a drum track which you say is sort of okay and not long enough.

Yes, you can export one sample or all samples but don't understand why you would want to export what you have just imported?

Hi Nathbeadle,

If he has recorded his tracks into the sequencer he can just export the song directly a a WAV file, stereo or multi-track. There is no need or point that I can see in sending the sounds he has to a pad or pads then exporting from the pads?

My understanding from what he wanted to do was to get a sequence with samples off the FA into an audio file. You said that exporting a sequence to a WAV file will not include the samples.. so he either needs to recreate everything in a DAW with the STEMS and sample files, or he would need to use the main outs and record the playback of the sequence using some type of external recorder.

I was just putting forward an option of being able to get a single WAV file that includes his sequence and sample playback that didn't require the use of any DAW or other device... that you can play the sequence and samples and have the sampler pick it all up into one nice package that can then be exported.

I may have missed his intentions then if this wasn't making sense

Nathbeadle,

You can't get them (keyboard output and a sample on a pad ) onto one WAV file in the FA06
