Help Using DS61, iPod Pro, Camelot Pro as a live-gig rig

Help Using DS61, iPod Pro, Camelot Pro as a live-gig rig

2 Feb 2019, 03:34
Hello,

I play in a small rock band and I am using the DS61 for our performances. I read about other people using their keyboard as a controller to run sounds off iPads and wanted to try it out. I am a total rookie when it comes to midi, and have been struggling with my setup for a week now (lots of time with the manual, YouTube, and google searches...but still having fun).

I am using the Roland UM-ONE USB Midi interface to connect my DS to a 2018 iPad Pro via the apple adaptor (with usb C, usb A, and VGA). I've connected the power cord to the USB-C connection because I read that I needed to power the iPad if using it for midi in and out. [attachment: DS-iPadPro Connected in Camelot.JPG] [attachment: UM-ONE to midi in-out.JPG] I've been able to get the iPad to recognize the DS as a controller with midi coming in (I can play on the Korg Module LE, and GarageBand...haven't tried anything else).

But, there are 2 problems.
1. I am trying to get Camelot Pro to control the DS via midi and it says that it has connected to the DS, but it isn't actually controlling the DS. [attachment: message on camelot pro.JPG] 2. I can't get the audio to come out from the iPad Pro to the DS (which I have attached to speakers). I thought it would be able to do this, but now I am completely unsure after reading about this online.

So, any advice would be super helpful. Thanks for reading.

How the UM-ONE is connected with cables out to the speakers...don't know if I screwed this up.

message in Camelot Pro that makes me think I should be able to control the DS.

You are connecting the iPad to the DS only via the MIDI jacks, and audio doesn't travel over MIDI. I know the new iPad Pro does not have a headphone jack, do you have an adapter to get that audio output? If so, run a cable from that audio out to the EXT INPUT on the back of the Roland, and you'll be all set.

Thank you anotherscott. I appreciate your help. My new plan is to get a powered USB-C hub with an audio interface (looking at the Focusrite Scarlett and the Behringer U-Phoria UM2...because it's cheap).

I feel like I'm getting closer to making my rig work. Thank you.

Cheers
