Patch management
7 Jul 2018, 10:52I was looking at the layout of patches on the System-8, and it's safe to generalize that they have been roughly categorized by Number as:
On this keyboard, selection is made by turning the knob one step at a time or selecting A-H and then 1-8. Thus if I want to try my various leads, I need to click 2 buttons A5, B5, C5, D5, etc. On the other hand, if all my leads were together under E for example, I could just click 1,2,3,4, etc. or turn the dial one click.
With only 64 patches, we can't really look to General MIDI as a starting place, but at least that "standard" groups instruments sequentially in families of 8.
How do the pros handle this?
- Ambient
- Arpeggios
- ???
- Brass
- Pads
- Leads
- Bass
- FX
