About the 3 MFX's

Hello all, at first when I first started actually creating music on my FX and found out I was only able to use 3 MFX across the song I was composing I was pretty ticked but then it hit me. I know this isn't new or anything but thank God for skipback sampling you can have a part of a song playing and all effects processors are used up you can just skipback sample it normalize it loop it in the mix resulting in you can keep adding tons of effects thats crazy. May be a little more work but if you love making music then you dont mind the extra work as long as your expressing the art of your soul. The FS-X's are very sweet synths no wonder why Art doesnt complain , once you master it you can do alot of deep and crazy things with it the music becomes very liquid .Peace

I am glad you got on the right way of understanding your board. By resampling effected material, you can create amazingly rich and interesting parts/loops/phrases/etc. You do not always need to resample long parts this way - I leave them with "real" MFX, not resampled. But for beat/phrase/fx loops this is cool. You create a killer loop with all 5 FX units used, then you create another one etc. This is the way I always do it, and it's really great. You can have 1000s of MFX units this way, virtually.

I agree completly with you. For someone like me who used to play with an XP with only 1 FX and no sampling the FX really is a beast. Personally I think that the sonic caracteristics of the FX by far surpasses is lack of MFX when compared with the competion.

Yeah I agree also fix. People are getting more lazy everyday . It's funny to think that there are actually people out there that expect to make music with just 3 button pushes LOL!!! There isnt anything like sitting down at your equipment in that mental state of just creating , I sorta like the fact that when creating music it's like creating an art sculpture , you get a basic foundation down then you hammer, cut, and chisel away with the design and complexity then finish it off with a smooth finish...it's a lovely thing man.

I agree that sampling can be quite useful.
But it's amazing what you can do with 3 MFX.
I try to sample as little as possible now. I just hate the fact they are stuck at a specific number and need to be loaded at all times for the song to long. + the Fantom taskes so long to load after that.

What I did was make a template performance with the MFX setup to have part 1 MFX1 part MFX2. and MFX3 being an equalizer or other effect that does not drastically change a sound.

Then I get the beat to run to "A" bypassing the MFX units OR have it go through the MFX equalizer.
The bass or basses, I usually keep them pretty dry in pop and Hip hop music. So I can have them bypass the MFX too or go thru the equalizer.

All the sounds that don't use much effect will not have a dedicated MFX. I usually have 1 or 2 sounds that are FX heavy and have MFX 1 and 2 dedicated to them.

Then if am stuck I'll Sample some special Fx sounds and Hits in Patch mode and insert them in the Sequence. That way I keep my samples small and my FX quick on boot up.
