Chop rythme set (BUG!?) a solution? read my last post

Chop rythme set (BUG!?) a solution? read my last post

i have been using chop within the sampler to set chop points.
so far, every time I hit Exe after setting the chop points, it chops the sample and i get another dialoge box which is suppose to allow me to select where to store the new rythme set.
a list appears and the options/buttons at the bottom are

CANCEL SELECT

However the screen always becomes corrupt, i cannot scroll up or down and the only button that has any effect is CANCEL.

anyone else experience this??

Could you please give the exact steps to reproduce this bug? What sample are you using: what format, length, mono/stereo etc.?

For everybody else: can anyone confirm this bug as well?

Edited Oct 12th 2004 (skip this post and see my later post to succesfuly create this bug and workaround)

1) hit sample button
2) choose resample
3) start then hit play on the sequencer
4) stop on seqencer then stop on sampler (sample lenght about 2 mins Stereo i have an extra 512mb installed)
5) choose modify sample
6) choose chop
7) add point (keep adding other points untill finished)
8) select Exe
9) Processing........
10) window pops up to select location to store new rythem set (this is corrupt)

up down arrows do not work, choosing SELECT has no effect and only CANCEL will remove the screen and return you to the sample edit screen

Hi QuinnX, all.

Yes, this is apparently a bug in OS 1.03. I have a Fantom-X8 with OS 1.03 and was able to reproduce the problem you described using a 1 min sample and manually setting 15 chop points. After executing, then processing completes, a prompt asks is you want to create a rhythm set. If you select F8 (Execute), the resulting window that is supposed to appear allowing you to select which Part (keyboard or pads) is not drawn properly. The "Current Address" field is overwritten on top of the "Custom Rhythm" window and only the F7 (Cancel) button will work. This does not happen when the Auto Chop function is used instead of the manual adding of chop points. I don't know if this bug existed in 1.01 or 1.00, but you'd think Roland would test this crap before releasing it. :-( This is the second confirmed bug in 1.03 (other than the existing bugs that were around prior to 1.03). Ha, aren't OS updates supposed to remove bugs and not add more? :-\

The second bug I found is that, now with 1.03, when the Rx switch is turned on for a Part, regardless of whether the Kb (Keyboard) switch is turned on, no sound will be produced by the Part to which the Rx switch was set to OFF. That makes the FX rather useless as a remote sound source and controller at the same time. The only thing the 1.03 OS fixed that I could see was the metronome timing issue during heavy graphics activity. Bugs fixed: 1. Bugs added: 2. I think it's time for me to downgrade back to 1.01. Grrr.

so it has to be an over a minute sample for this to happen? cuz when i tried it with an about a 30 sec sample everything was fine on my part.

another question is: why is there seperate files with these upgrades I.E. X6/X7/X8 aren't they the same OS?

Yes, it could be the original sample length that does it.

Why different files for the same OS? Because there are different graphics for the backgrounds of the X6, X7, and X8. More importantly, it's likely that each of the OSes are slightly customized (for RPS configurations) so that the graphic representing the keyboard properly represents the number of actual keys you have on your X6, X7, or X8. This could cause some real confusion. Also, notice that the boot-up animation specifically says your model number (X8 for me). This, too, must be customized per OS (to save precious flash ROM space, rather than putting all the graphics for all the synths in one ROM).

okay i was able to successfully recreate this bug repeatedly and here is how...

performance mode:
hit sample button
choose sample or resample or solo
sample about 10 secs

make a couple of manual chops (one chop will do too)
now use cursor down arrow so you hilight the last feild which i think is usualy called Point x where x is the number of the point

field are:(example below)
CURRENT ADDRESS 65465644
POINT No 2
POINT 2 <----------------hilight this field and use the dial to increase the value in this field

now hit EXE
and the BUG will be created
(the key to creating the bug is to ensure the 3rd field is hilighted)

NOTE:
the sample length is not the issue

nsheldon:
"This does not happen when the Auto Chop function is used instead of the manual adding of chop points"

yes! it does if you select the last field as explained above.. ;-)

WORKAROUND (solution)
it seems if you make sure the last field is Not! hilighted before! you hit Exe you do not get the bug... (does this work for any one else?)

u know Nathan, I tried it again and still no bug of that nature, that I can find.. I followed every step down to the last detail and still nothing. maybe not all machines don't experience the same bugs?.?.? maybe not??

not that I want to find it.... I guess it doesn't concern me...

but I still get pops when i'm switchin patches.but not as bad as it use to be, it use to be LOUD! for some reason I think it's when you're switchin categories or preset sections...

I was able to reproduce the bug.
QuinnX: I get it if I have highlighted the 2nd or 3rd field.

Sptimo: what OS version are you using?

--------------------
Remember that there are only 3 MFX + 1 Reverb + 1 Chorus in Fantom-S/X and you have to share them across 16 parts (patches) in a song.
