Sorting out sampling organization/storage??

Sorting out sampling organization/storage??

12 Jul 2004, 15:41
I imported a bunch of samples(111mb of a 128mb card) on my fantom-s. Then I created multisamples from these samples. When I try to rewrite the samples with the new assigned root key........it says "card memory full".So everytime I powerup again,I have to reassign the root key to the proper notes.
Does the Fantom-s resave the sample with the new root key as a totally new sample? Am I actually gonna be limitted to 64mbs(on a 128mbcard) of editable samples to load as multisamples in order to reserve enough card memory to resave them post edit??
Cant tell you how many patches/multisamples/songs ive ruined trying to sort out samples. And when I load different samples or do edits such as chops......it strews the samples out all over the sample list instead of grouping them together making it difficult to relocate them efficiently.
THanks for all the help! You are a great bunch of folks!

Ps-Thanks for the patches Artemio, I am a willing ArtemioLabRat!! lol

Did you delete the original samples from the /TMP/AUDIO_IMPORT area?

Yes,I cleared out all the samples from the "audio import" folder upon importing them to the sample list.
After doing my editing(assigning root keynote, etc.) I usually "mark set all" and then "write" which usually works. Only now it says "card memory full" ,sometimes it will save the first few before saying this. Is it basically resaving them as new samples?
I am creating a few vocal/choir patches from a sample cd. The procedure I usually follow is..........Import samples from "Audio Import" folder, edit samples with new root keynotes and loop points.Create a multisample from samples.Create a patch from the multisample Delete original files from "Audio Import " folder. "Mark set" the edited samples......and hit "write".

Well, it shouldn't overwrite anything. Try to write samples one by one, not with "mark set all".

By the way, I am glad you liked my patches, thanks. ;-)

Everything seems to be working fine now. I did find some duplicate samples eating up memory and deleted them. Although I have had errors before that were resolved up repowering up.
Hey Artemio......is there a way for me to organize my samples without having them spread out randomly on my sample list? Is that what you are talking about when you mention "sample location bug" ?

ps- Yes...I loved your patches, especially the bass ones. They have more punch than any stock patches. Especially after a lil more editing they fit in real nice on an agressive industrial project. Thnx again

Well, I just organise my samples per project in the list, like samples 0001 - 0099 for project 1, them samples 0100-0199 for project 2 and so on. I usually don't have more than 15-25 samples per project, so marking them one after another is a matter of 4-5 seconds. No, this is not connected with the sample location bug (which was on the FX series only by the way).

About my patches: thanks, I am very glad you like them! There will be more in near future.

Cool, thats pretty much the way I would like my samples organized too. But how do you get them assigned to those certain sample bank #'s? I havent found out yet how to shuffle samples around in my "sample list" on the Fantom-s. At the moment it seems I am unable to define where my samples are stored, and it even leaves many empty sample banks in between samples somtimes. I am sure I overlooking some feature allowing me to assign samples in my sample list to be all in order...not randomly spread out. Sorry if I sound dumb.....but the multisample feature on the Fantom-s has really frustrated me.
You are a great help Artemio, you ought to be on Roland's payroll!! (plus I am happy you havent jumped ship to the Fantom-x yet also....lol)

When you import the samples, they get auto-assigned to some locations. If you use "save all samples", they will be stored in these default locations. What I do is write each sample one-by-one each to the location I need. It may take a lot of time for 100s of samples, but doing this with 20-30 samples of one project is not so hard.

By the way, the reason I didn't updrade to FX is as simple as that I don't need it. I like my FS more - the 4-shade screen drawas much more visible images, and I like the panel design of the FS over the FX. I also wouldn't like to spend extra money on a card adapter.

"I also wouldn't like to spend extra money on a card adapter."

Thats funny. $9.99??? Thats a pretty soft reason :)

$9.99 is not what they cost here in Ukraine. We are not Europe (yet) to have such low prices on hi-tech stuff.
