USB Playback Button Questions

USB Playback Button Questions

18 Sep 2010, 11:01
I'm seeing something that is different in the GI that may make me want to go with the DI.

The biggest part of my practice is playing with accompaniment tracks including in training/song books. I see the DI has a USB playback panel but the GI does not. And the similar buttons on the keyboard for the GI appear to be for songs on the SD card. Now I can use the SD in place of my USB and this appears will work given the GI manual.

The problem I see with the USB playback is they only show:

BWD (Backward rewind)
and FWD (Forward wind).

I'm not seeing where the GI has a back/foward button for usb to either restart the current song or move forward to the next song.

Has anyone used the GI and know if what I'm seeing is correct?

Thanks

OB

As in other players I've used, I am thinking that these buttons may work as such:

When you press FWD once, it advances to the next song

When you press BWD once, it returns to the song's beginning or to a previous song

When you press & hold either function button, it will fast-forward or rewind (and the results are audible).

Seriously, I just can't imagine that these essential functions would not be included...but stranger things have happened!

I contacted Roland via email support and below is their response. This was not what I was hoping at all. To some it may not be a big deal but I like to learn new material by playing along to the tracks that come along with books and I copy them to USB. I'm continuously hitting the back track button to start over. It looks like this can't be done with the Juno GI.

Why in the world would they have done this? I don't see any other way to go back to the beginning of a track then.

Response:

We have tested the USB Song Player and when you press the BWD button, it does not jump back to the beginning of the song, only a few measures back from the point you are. The FWD command works the same way, moving you forward a few seconds with each press.

Looks like you just have to keep pressing the BWD button until you reach the beginning of the song. I really don't see it as that big of a deal but some may...

Yea I guess that's not the worst thing in the world. And possibly the SD card can be used for the same functionality.

I sent off another email to Roland because I reviewed my email and I did only ask them how those buttons worked. This time I asked if there were other buttons that could peform the function I'm looking for.

Well it looks like they didn't put in a back/forward track button for the usb player. I don't think I've ever seen a song player whether it be software or hardware not include this functionality. What could they have been thinking?

Question: Can you please let me know if the Juno GI has an option/button that allows you to skip forward/backward songs when using the USB song player?

I already know you have BWD/FWD but these don't skip back to the beginning of the track or to the next track.

Thanks

Chris

Hello Chris,

The Juno GI does not have this function. The BWD/FWD lets you got through measures, but not songs. If you want to select another song it has to be done on the display screen.
