New owner-File management

Hi guys, new Fantom owner here with some questions. There are many aspects of the Fantom which I love, but Im here to try to get answers on the areas where Im having issue.

1. Is it possible to import patches, and any required samples, between projects.

2. Is there any way to have sub folders of samples in a project rather than one huge list.

3. Is it possible to have a categorized library of samples on the flash drive and access them when needed.

4. Is it possible to delete all the sample associated with a patch, or must they be deleted manually. Manual deletion would be a pain for drum kits.

What I wound ideally like is to have a library of my most important samples to be resident on the flash drive, and access them as required.

If this is not possible, but it is possible to import between projects I could make a number of projects to hold section of my library.

Thanks for any help given.

Hi,

Importing patches between projects is possible using the Fantom Librarian software on your computer. For samples, I believe you need to buy a program called Yase.

As for your other questions, unfortunately all this isn't possible (yet?).

Nevertheless, the Fantom is a great instrument and I'm sure you'll enjoy it despite it's shortcomings!

Cheers
Gil

Thanks for the reply.

Im starting to see that there are some serious issues with the OS. Some of the stuff is so basic that it is beyond belief that its in the state it is.

For OS 2 they really need to do some serious consultation.

If the file handling and management were done correctly, the instrument would be totally transformed.

Actually, the term for this feature is very carefully chosen by Roland. There IS a file management utility, since we can copy and move specific files between projects, but what is needed here in order to exchange patches and other types of data between projects is a proper content management system. And this is because these kinds of data are embedded in a single large .svd file. You can copy and move the whole .svd file from one project to another, but not certain patches or other types of data that reside in it.

And of course something has to be done about the various dependencies, like when copying Live sets along with all their patches and any user multisamples and samples in them. Same goes with songs, recorded audio (samples) and MIDI phrases.

If you want to make a proper file-management system, you make it right and properly. Otherwise don't make it at all, just to take the credit for it.
