Setup problems concerning MIDI recording

19 Mar 2010, 08:54
Hi,

I looked in the micro manual (p. 7) and tried to set up my G8 with the computer. Works fine. Now I want to record a MIDI track in Pro Tools using the sounds in my G. I'm in Single mode and the screen says "No send", which I believe is right. I can record the drum kit I pre-selected, but there is a strange effect (flanger or phaser) that I can't seem to get rid of. More importantly, I can't change sound on the G. When I press Patch list I get the external parts screen, which doesn't help me a bit. Is there another way to record MIDI using the sounds of the G or am I doing something wrong?

Hi fatbrass.. I'm not even sure where you are when you are saying "no send" etc.

You say you want to record a midi track in Pro Tools but you are in single mode.. You would only be able to play back one sound at a time from there (which im guessing is not what you want)

You need to set up a studio set with the 16 sounds you want to use in your song and save the set. Then you stay in studio mode and select the corresponding midi channel from within Pro tools. The strange effect you are talking about could be the midi bouncing back and your hearing 2 notes at once because of this.

I don't have a mac so wait for arty to come in and give you some settings for pro tools.
