THE MOODY BLUES... A PLEA

THE MOODY BLUES... A PLEA

Okay all,

Maybe the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't have the prestige of The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. But, it nonetheless exists and MANY great artists are honoured there. The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Pink Floyd, and MANY more.

The 2010 nominees have been announced and yet again, The Moody Blues are NOT among the nominees. LL Cool J however IS one of the nominees. Now, unlike the Baseball Hall of Fame where achievement means something beyond longevity, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's induction requirements are quite lax. Even so, The Moody Blues have made significant contributions to the ROCK genre. Okay, so The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame now includes R&B - which makes sense, and Hip Hop, which really doesn't. It would be like electing Willie Mays to the football hall of fame. Regardless, why is it that LL Cool J will be inducted - an artist OUTSIDE the genre - while a very INFLUENTIAL act such as The Moody Blues are once again forgotten!

So, here is what I propose:

I would like to start a petition here to send along to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame challenging them on their criteria. I would be willing to draft the petition and if we could get some or most of the Roland faithful here to sign it, it may not get The Moody Blues inducted, but it MAY be a start to get them and other Rock acts recognised such as Yes, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, and others. The biggest of these of course would be The Moody Blues with Yes a close second if the Hall judges on hits - which of course they do not. What is problematic is that the hair bands are now entering their period of eligibility. Some of them are excellent bands, but, where is the justice in omitting an act like The Moody Blues while Bon Jovi will undoubtedly waltz right in on his first year?

This is not the first time the Rock Hall has done this. John Lennon was rightfully inducted as a solo artist after being inducted as part of the most influential act in all of show business. However, Sir Paul McCartney was made to wait - a LONG time. I remember watching his induction that night. Neil Young gave the induction speech. Sir Paul came to the stage with daughter Heather and the crowd went wild. What was funny was that VH1 had pixeled out Heather's shirt which had the words "About Fucking Time" emblazoned on it. (Sorry Artemiy, if you feel this must be censored, then of course, feel free, this is your baby).

Note to Hip Hop people: I am not protesting the inclusion of LL Cool J or any other Hip Hop artists. My complaint is that a MAJOR ROCK act has been forgotten - and I think consciously so.

Come on folks, this is a simple thing, and maybe the Hall, with enough signatures, MIGHT rethink its criteria. If we do nothing, then nothing will happen. If we try and still nothing happens, at least we TRIED.

Sorry mate, but the Moody Who's?

A bad joke, my apologies, but honestly, they even named an album "Hall of Fame"? A plea indeed!

Here's a serious question, what is the criteria for inclusion into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame? I'm not familiar with it at all and maybe should be if going to protest. Is there a clause that makes british progressive rock bands wait x years? The Moody Blues has had a ton of lineup changes - maybe that plays into it? What do they win anyways? Roundtrip tickets to Cleveland?

As for Hip Hop, it really is the new Rock N Roll and has been in the states for some time now.
