I'm signed up there and it's a good place - active. Email them or try signing up again. It's worth it.

This is probably the second best place for MV questions. There are some MV users here including me.

I had problems too.

I had tried signing up on the MV Nation page about a month ago. My account wasn't made active either.

I own a MV 8800. I bought it about a month after they were released. I've used it for many different things in many different ways. I'd like to think that I can answer just about any question about it. I know there are others on this site that feel the same way.
This forum is a good place to ask questions.

I did read some interesting rumors when browsing MV NATION. The certainly sparked my interest. The rumors turned out to be untrue but it gave me something to research.

I've tried emailing a few people with no luck. my user name is the same on there. If you don't mind can you help me get active on there?

In the meantime, some of the questions I have are some rather simple ones.

1) How do I import sounds from my computer. (ie.. Fl studio, drums, kits... ect..)

2) I'm been having issues bouncing my session down to Cd as separate tracks. (drums on track one.. snare one two.. and so on)

3) I tried sampling a Cd and i can't figure out how to chop up the segments so they can loop, without skipping and sounding off beat.

Sorry I wouldn't ask this if I had a manual.. I bought it used from another producer. Thanks everyone.

No Problem

1) Hook your MV up to your computer with a USB cable. Press the Disk/USB button> press F3 (USB)> press F5 (connect). It will ask you if you want to save your current project. You can choose yes if you are working on a project that you don't want to risk loosing, but I've never had any problems. (your choice)

After you have connected to your computer open your MV hard drive. Then drag and drop the files from your computer into the MV folder you want them to be in. After they are done copying, close the MV hard drive and eject it from your computer. Then press F5 (disconnect).

You should now be able to load these files using the import function.

2) You will need to Mixdown each track individually by soloing it. From that point it is an individual file that can be placed on cd.

(If you have the drums all on one track and you want them to be on several. Make a selection and right click or press command. Then choose split notes. This will seperate the kick track from the snare track nd so on.)

3) As far as looping samples, that takes some practice. You can do that by adjusting the start and end points of the sample.
Of course if the samples you are importing are loop based. All you should have to do is assign them to an audio phrase and turn on the BPM Sync function.

Auto chop also works very well.

Before you hook it up to your computer, be sure to disable Windows Media Playersautomatic scanning/syncing feature. If it tries to index your MV's hard drive, it can really screw up your data, without warning.

Guys, seeing how many posts we have on the 8800, I think we should open a dedicated section here. What do you think?

Seems like a good idea to me, as it's my one piece of Roland gear right now and there aren't enough dedicated places to discus this wonderful beast. Just MV Nation as far as I know.

It is very unlike the MC and SP products. Although it usually gets compared to the Akai MPC products, it seems much more to me like a keyboard workstation without the keyboard.

MV related posts seem to come in batches here. There will be nothing for months and then several questions come along at once.

I would realy love to see a Tweak Book for it and some custom patch downloads.

Oh, and do remember to include the MV-8000 as well as the MV-8800. They are pretty much the same thing.

To my knowledge they haven't made any OS updates.
If and when they do you should be able to find them at http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.aspx?ObjectId=848&ParentId=84

They do have some additional patches including loops and synths that are available for download.
Just make sure you don't already have them since you bought it used.

Thank know1. =) Just filled the machines 40GBs with sounds! time to get some beats laid down =)

Bigger harddrive

7 Jun 2009, 14:56
I'm assuming you didn't use the entire 40GB, because that is quite honestly a lot of stuff. If you did WOW, but you're going to be limiting yourself. You might want to consider leaving yourself some room for recording audio. You're also going to need room for additional files such as mixdowns. Or if you plan on saving any custom MFX.

If that 40GB harddrive just isn't big enough, you should check out this youtube video.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXYcjAr8L1c
It shows you how to install a larger harddrive in your MV.
