Using SysEx to set Tempo? (Help Quinnx!)

Using SysEx to set Tempo? (Help Quinnx!)

Hey all,

With all the SysEx goodies that have been popping up for the last few days, I'm wondering if anybody knows a SysEx trick for resetting the Tempo when you play an RPS phrase.

For a song I'm playing I need a cowbell pattern to play for 12 bars, in the middle of the song, at 65 bpm. I programmed a Phrase for it and assigned it to the pads in RPS mode, and it was at that point that I realized, like a lot of others here, that Tempo cannot be saved as part of a Live Set.

After reading through a bunch of Quinnx's awesome sysex tips I fired up the FG Editor and MIDIOx last night but was not able to figure out any way to get a Midi Message for setting the tempo. Anyone else wanna give it a shot?

If I can't get this to work I'm going to have to resample it, and that will really suck, using up megs of sample memory for a stupid cowbell pattern :P

ROLAND: Please let us save the tempo in the Live set! :)

I'm not home to check this but try to register the live set with the proper tempo to a favorites location and see if the favorite will remember tempo.

No, it's not possible. You can't store tempo per Live, and not per Favorite either.

Something I've noticed, though, is that you can store volume per Favorite.

There does not appear to be a sysex for this and the only way to record tempo is in the song timeline.

As far as saving tempo in a LIVE SET, this may appear to be a good idea untill you realise that each live set is not exculsive to its original creation and could be used for other performances.
so if you where switch from live set 1 to 2 through 8 at tempo 135 and wanted to use them again at 155 you currently only have to reset to live set 1 and move through them to 8 and nothing changes.

However..
If we lock each Live Set to a specific tempo, we can never use them at our master tempo because the tempo would change each time we change live set.

Of course its also possibe that Roland could allow saving the tempo to each LIVE Set but then introduce a check box on the Live set screen called LOCK TEMPO (ignore live set tempo`s and use master tempo only)

But only IF roland actual does any real thinking.. (or reads this thread) ;^)

cyclops,

Yeah, I tried it when I got home. I figured that since favorites stores transpose and octave shifts it might also remember tempo.

I did notice a problem though. Maybe it's already been brought up. If you save a favorite after transposing it will remember the setting. But if you select this favorite and then press another mode (live, studio, single) the keyboard stays transposed but the transpose and oct button leds don't light to remind you of it.

Owen: Yeah, you're right on this. Seems that we need that to be fixed, too. The best way for the Favorites to function is that when you program octave/transpose into a given Favorite, the corresponding LED should be lit, whether you stay in Favorite mode or you switch mode to Single, Live or Studio.
