How's the Multisampling on the Fantom G?

I would like to know how the multisampling on the Fantom G is before I jump out the window and purchase it. Thanks.

I have only played with it for an hour or so, but it works! It's in a funny menu location, so it feels like an afterthought. The implementation is a littly klunky, but the screens are well done (setting key ranges, etc). One thing I did notice was that you can only have 128 multisamples (total per "project")...that may be a deal breaker for some.

I did quick multisamples of Mellotron violins and choir and they came out great (once I got the interface figured out).

Just my $.02.

One thing I will add...manipulating samples is a *LOT* faster on the G (if you're coming from an S or X).

From the 1.10 supplemental documentation:

The diagram that accompanies that text is in agreement.

Do you mean it's faster when you execute something like Truncating?

Multisample and Fantom-G OS1.10

Have you ever tried to create a stereo tone layer with (mono-) multisamples for left and right channel? Can one of you tell me how to do this?
I always hear the left channel as a mono sound - regardless of what multisample i assign to the right channel - Am I wrong???
Thanks and best regards - Jens.

billw:

How did you do the Melltron multi-samples.
Did you use pre-made ones, or did you have to do it yourself?

Any instructions would be welcomed!

I did it myself. I sampled the violins and choirs at C and F# in 3 octaves and used the G7's multisampling menus to set the zones. Rather than loop them, I recorded around 8 seconds of each note (which is all the original Mellotron could do anyway).

There are Mellotron samples available on the internet in wave format that you download and use...in fact, I think they were mentioned somewhere on these forums. I can't vouch for the quality of those samples though.

Just to clear up the bit about 128 multisamples per project...a multisample is made up of a bunch of individual samples (of which there can be 2000 in a project). Therefore, if you were to sample 8 notes of Mellotron choir, you'd use up 8 of the 2000 "sample" spots in a project. From those 8 samples, you would only need to use 1 of the 128 multisamples to represent the choir.

Where is the Multisampling Menu?

11 Jul 2008, 15:53
Can anyone tell me where the menu for multisampling is located? Billw said that it's in a funny menu location and I can't find it. By the way, I have updated my OS to 1.10.

Thanks!!!

Update: I found it. Thanks Anyway. By the way, I just love the Fantom G. Fills in the holes that my Fantom-S had.
