Good link,nice piccies too.

MP3's are ok.the demo's are still a bit....uninspiring

The piano sounds nice enough,EP's sound ok as well. The drums,I assume are from ARX on one of the MP3's....still not totally convinced about some aspects of the sound, snare's are well lacking...hopefully may be tweaked.

Again in general I would say it sounds ok but impressive is not a word I tend to give to a lot of demo's.The be all and end all is when I sit down with a unit in a shop with a pair of HD-25's and run it through its paces....I'm still convinced that the G will be an addition to my set up.....the screen real estate looks gorgeous.

I agree. Nothing special here, slighty better than FantomX.
I still consider: XS6 or FG....?

XS6 or FG...? It depends what you need first. If you want a good and usefull hardware sequencer, the G should be the better choice. This is mine !
For the sound, sure that the XS is a great choice but the FG not seems too bad..... Althought I think XS and FG still stay complementary for sounds.

Cool, thanks for the link!

These MP3s are indeed a bit uninspired, but I like what I hear (quality wise)! Should suit my needs.

Drums (in the drum file, not the mixes):
ARX 01 or internal patches? Can anyone answer that? Sounds good to me...

btw - Isn't it frustrating that TWO music MAGAZINES offer audio files FASTER than the manufacturer himself? Roland doesn't seem to care for that...
shrewd-salut!
SRUT, BUT...

Great! We get to hear the sounds!

Recording quality aside of course...

Some of the EP's sounded pretty dynamic and nice.(ARX?)....unfortunately distorted recording.

First impressions...

*Concerning the EPs:
- Positive: The G Rhodes EPianos are a whole class above anything the FantomX itself has to offer and cover a wide variety of often used Rhodes in good quality and with multi-velocity-switching. Even some dyno-patches are ok now.
The variety at high quality level is clearly better than with a Fantom X (more or less unuseable Rhodes) plus SRX-12 (great single sampled Rhodes, but only 2-3 sound variations).
- Negative: I can't hear a single Rhodes patch which sounds like single sampled (for each key) to me. This takes a lot of the vividness of the real thing, better mirrored in SRX-12, from the patches. There seem to be one or two ARX sounds (or bad G sounds) in the patches which I don't like with their artificial plastic attack sound.

*Concerning the Pianos
- Positive: same as with EPs: Various sounds at high quality level with a rich, balanced sound
- Negative: still some problems in mid-range (that was the SRX-11 weakness) in some patches

*Drums
- Positive: Some really nice drums in the drum demos. I hope they are from the G and not just from ARX01
- Negative: some extremely weak drums in the other demos

*Hammond Organ
- Negative: The very few patches heard sound only slightly 'better' (meaning on a terribly low Fantom X comparison basis) than the FantomX B3 crap, if at all. This could become a real disappointment, but it's too early to judge, before more patches are heard.

*Synth sounds:
- Positive: some patches offering much more punch and clarity than the old X stuff.
- Negative: still enough plastic sounding crap in between which could have been sorted out (like *much* of the old Fantom X stuff which was not at all worth getting into the G from my view) ;-)

Orchestral stuff: too little heard to judge

Strings and pads: same

...

The demos, though obviously done fast on the fly just to show off some sounds, still show clearly to me that the FantomX is *not* on the same level of overall sonic clarity and punch as the G.

My resume is that the sounds, while certainly being no breathtaking revelation, still seem to offer a very useable patch basis with a good overall sound character.
So I am not enthusiastic but very satisfied that I ordered the G: it will help doing the things I want to do clearly better than the X.

Ceterum censeo:
Multisampling will be an absolute ***MUST*** for the G to cover some weaker sides.

jimknopf....I was going to try to give a little review, but yours is very thorough and accurate to what I heard.

Adding...the Piano's sounded nice and punchy.
I hope those weren't the best cymbals available...
edit: Listening back, the 1st percussion demo had pretty good cymbals.

I am glad I ordered as well...

A second listen to the organs gives me a better impression of them...
I think the "boomy" recording is hurting them...
The have some different character there than the X.

Multisampling will be an absoulte *MUST* for the G to cover some weaker sides.

You right Jimknopf ! 512 MB isn't too much but you can save samples together with song as "project", besides loading time is several times shorter, so MUST BE !!!

Huh? The "Demo 1" has all different sounds than the earlier version we heard. I think he may been in the wrong mode. Live Mode vs. Studio Mode perhaps?

Audacity, my suspicion was anyway, that some long done midi (not done fresh for demoing the G) was just used, supplied with available G sounds on the fly, and yes, maybe recorded to audio even in different modes ;-)

Jimknopf,
I entirely agree with your analysis of demos, excepted for the drums and particularly for the cymbales which ring as my old JV 880 !! (afraid that ARX01 will be necessary). I am impatient to listen to all the sounds for real.
Thank you alpha-C for this link.

ya but the reality is if the sounds in the fantom G are perfect

who would buy the ARX boards?
