Sorry I'm late!

Sorry I'm late!

My elephant had tummy trouble....

I've just encountered a GT for the first time, and while it looks absolutely sweet, I am a bit baffled about a few things which I'm sure have been covered, but if anyone would be so kind as to look at these queries as a collection....?

1. when was the GT released?
2. I see no card slot. Can I still use my Vsynth sounds?
3. What are the key improvements over VSynth?
4. Does it have twice the polyphony of the Vsynth?
5. In the store, I couldn't see how to change programs via pushbutton ( for stage use). How is it done?
6. Getting to tone genres seemed more complicated than with Vsynth. Is this so?
7. Does the GT retain D50 capability?

1. It was announced in January 2007, started shipping around April-May-June I think.

2. It has a USB drive now, and yes it imports all V-Synth 2.0 and XT patches.

3. It has two patches for layer/split, two MFX, vocoder now works in the synth engine (not a separate mode), it has a color screen.

4. Yes, about so.

5. You mean the patch palette? It works very simple, you can assign up to 64 patches to the 8 buttons x 8 banks.

6. No, why? There is an even more simple patch browser.

7. No, since it doesn't have a PC card slot.

thanks Artemio,

can I incorporate all the samples and genres from the Vsunth?
IOW, in theory at least, the GT could be a perfect clone of my Vsynth, at least for the purposes of a smooth transition while on the road?

From the V into GT I imported 3 big projects with a total of over 200 patches and 150 samples, all worked well. Whether you will like the GT more depends on your needs. If you play live you will love the two patches available, the brilliant vocoder and the screen.

thanks again :-)

I've just done some gigs where the VSynth pretended to be a D50, which was a lifesaver. It's a pity they didn't port the D50 architecture along with the vocoder.

Are there any sounds ( aprt from the voice doubling) that the GT makes that the Vsynth can't?

Are the GT libraries available for the VSynth?
