Pedals for Fantom X???

Simple question: Is it a MUST to use DP8 or DP10 pedals for a Fantom X8? No one in my town sells Roland, but they have nice pedals that "might" be compatible...how can I find out online?

Can a wrong sustain pedal (piano-like pedal) ruin the keyboard?

The pedal is nothing more than an electronic trigger. I have used a Korg pedal and a Casio footswitch (as a damper pedal) on my FX with no problems.
On some, you might have to switch the plarity though. That is easily done in the system settings.

My store used to sell Yamaha pedals. For some reason, they wouldn't work with the Fantom, regardless of polarity.
