Well, I remember RW said he didn't use any preamp. And my father also said that guitar won't really need it.

I will soon experiment with Felix, my fellow guitarist. I'm planning to plug his guitar into amp simulator and see how it rocks. :-P

But how would you plug it in?

...guitar straight into the 'Left (mono) 1/4 inch jack Input'?

Hey gtds,

Just plug it straight in, no preamp needed. You can set the input setting to MIC rather than LINE and get the preamp you need right from within the FS.

Plug into Mono Audio Input Jack, as you suggest, hit Sampling to get into Sampling mode, set your input level to MIC, add in any input efx you want and play away.

Artemio, Felix will love the Amp sim. You get to select from a bunch of different head simulations as well as speaker sims. Metal Stack is particularly fun. ;-)

Cheers,

RW, you don't have to tell me about the amp sim, I use it in 70% of my effected stuff and it's on of the most amazing things Roland has ever done. It has over 200 combinations of amp and speaker models giving you hours, days and years of effecting pleasure. :-P

Can you select pre-amps and power amps independently?

You will definitely get some sound into your Fantom-S, however don't be surprised if it sounds rather 'thin'. To properly connect an electric guitar you need a DI box. Most (pretty much all) electric guitars expect a high-impedance input. I haven't checked the Fantom-S input specs but I would be very surprised if it is high impedance. Setting the input gain to MIC level does nothing to the input impedance.

Again, it will work, but you will probably get a much fuller sound with a DI box. A passive electric guitar will have more problems than one that has active eletronics. Then again if you plug it in through an external guitar multi effect box you can skip the DI box.

gtds, yes i can read that :))) just several "+" button pushes in Opera browser ;)

i sampled a couple of guitar phrases directly in FS. it is electroacoustic Fender DG18CE with active electonics and it gives a normal rec level with setting input to Line Mono while sampling. Though as Arjan tells, using some kind of preamp is always preferable, even recorded directly it sounds good enough for me on backing tracks. you'll hear as i'll finish the tune soon :). And effects are really tasty and versatile when guitar plays through them, even in realtime! cool!

Don't suppose anyone feels like putting up a couple of samples of running a guitar through the FS effects? Preferably some nice and heavy metal guitar? :D I'm really eager to hear this as it's one of the things I'm planning to do once I get my FS.
