Xa Rotary & Hammond Sounds

Xa Rotary & Hammond Sounds

4 May 2007, 07:11
Hi, I've been lurking here a while, having bought a second hand Xa recently.

I have been playing around trying to get a decent rock hammond sound from it, and have yet to find something that is just what I want.

I've tried the B4real, but need to play with that more, and also tried importing samples from NI B4 and several other samples using the excellent YASE, but its still not quite what I want somehow.

In the meantime I have been playing around with the standard sounds, and haven't been quite satisfied with the rotary effect - it seems to have a bit too much of a tremelo effect - or if I set it to the VK rotary, that seems quite muddy.

I also have an XP30 with a JV 60s & 70s card, and the rotary seems better in that and so I'll probably stick to that for now, but I'd certainly like to have the option of getting the Xa to do what I want as well.

Any suggestions?

Cheers
James

well whatever you find copy the settings on b4real for the leslie. also you may want to reduce or increase the "spread" or stereo effect as that makes it sound a little unrealistic.. but I have found that the leslie is almost perfect, it should be as I took the settings directly out of the manual.

good luck

I had another try with b4real, and know that I know a bit more about how the Xa works, I managed to make much more progress with it, and I'm pretty sure I'll be using it.

I had already thought of using a performance to chain the MFX together, but you've done the work already, and very nice it is too :)

Now I just need to play around with the sounds to get what I need from it.

One thing that I've not figured out is what all the pads are doing (as the Xa only has 10, I think I'm missing some) - is there a list somewhere of what the pads do, and perhaps more importantly what they are actually affecting?

Many thanks for the work you've put into this though.

Cheers
James

you can actually look at them in RPS and they should be labeled and there are plenty of choices of patterns so that you can set up your own layout on the pads...

you can look at the list in the song patterns or just press a pad when you are editing the RPS and you can scroll through the patterns.
