Using control pedal on just one layer in a performance

Using control pedal on just one layer in a performance

Okay, I've been working with my Fantom for about 30 minutes a day since I got it 4 weeks ago. I'm starting to program a number of performances for a gig I have coming up in July. I'm still getting used to the way the Fantom "thinks". One thing I've commonly done with my old EPS-16+ is use the CV pedal to control various parameters of sounds and effects for just one instrument in a performance patch (similar to one layer in a Fantom performance). With the EPS, the default CV behavior is to not affect anything until you program it in to do so.

With the fantom, the pedal starts affecting volume on all layers as the same time. What would be the easiest way to disable it controlling volume for all but one of the layers in a performance?

thanks,

In MIXER, press Part View on the F keys. There you'll find a controls filter screen where you can set which parts can receive various controllers events and which will ignore them.

Perfect. I just tried it out and it does just what I needed. I found that I had to uncheck the expression, not the volume in order to get this to work the way I expected. My next challenge is how to assign the expression pedal to control wah in the effects.

One thing I really really really miss from my EPS is the ability to use a 2 pedal switch where one was the sustain and one acted as another on/off switch style controller pedal. I'm still really used to being able to kick the rotary speaker effect to speed up and slow down by kicking that second pedal.

I don't miss the lack of reliability I've come to expect from the old keyboard over the last few years though. The Fantom doesn't have the noise, glitches, crashes or heat of the EPS. I still think however that Ensoniq really understood a live performance workstation well ahead of their competition.
