Problem with VC2.. program display very quirky

Problem with VC2.. program display very quirky

12 Feb 2007, 14:17
Hi... very new to the XT so not sure if I am accounting for everything here.

When I switch to the VC2 and go to flick through the presets the unit begins to go really quirky on me by flicking to and fro many of the Programs randomly on its own. It doesn't seem to stop and renders things useless and I need to either switch the unit off or change to another V-Card in order to begin usieng it again.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?

Appreciate your feedback.

Thankfully not a problem with the unit, it was just picking up some midi messages from the PC.
Disabling PC rx in midi section solves it instantly until I find out wtf is transmitting.
Don't know if you can help but I've just got my XT (VC2) and I'm recording the VC2 into cubase with a mic and it records a signal but doesnt play back - should I be doing something else?

@ndecomp

I have the same problem and it has never been solved.

In cubase you see the recorded breath messages from the microphone but when you play the midi sequence back to the VC2 it does not respond.

According to the VC2 midi implementation it does not respond to midi breath messages by default but it is selectable.

I have never been able to find out how to make the VC2 respond to incoming breath messages, RolandUK said it should just work but clearly it does not, they were unable to offer me any information on how to make it work.

My solution was to record the signal from the microphone into an Audio track in cubase and route this to the external input on the back of the XT.

When you play back this audio signal to the VC2 it responds as expected.

This meant I had to buy a new sound card, one with more in/out connections.

I would love to know how to make the VC2 respond to midi, having searched for literally hours for a solution I can only say that this is a bug with the VC2.

In cubase you see the recorded breath messages from the microphone but when you play the midi sequence back to the VC2 it does not respond.
I'm seeing similar issues with the VC2 in my v-synth. It lets me change a parameter via the v-synth but when I try to change it back via the v-synth the parameter changes but the sound doesn't change back. I'm on local off so I'm routing through cubase and back, I have not tried it in local mode yet. Usually I'm trying to change something like formant or wet/dry, etc.

I don't have issues with any of my other gear or with the v-synth when I'm not in VC-2 mode so I know it isn't a routing issue.

Best way I've found to use the VC-2 is plug a mic into the v-synth and record the output staying out of the midi domain as much as possible.

The VC-2 just doesn't seem to work right. It almost seems like certain parameters wont update when the engine is processing audio.

@DodgingRain

Yes thats the choice, either record its output into an Audio channel, or if you have more than one output on your sound card you can do what I do.

I guess most people just record the output and this is maybe why the problem with not responding to breath messages has never been highlighted.

Also,I often find that the VC2 stops making any sound at all and have to switch the XT off and on again.

I'm getting that flickering display w/ a VC2 card.
Nice to know I didn't blow $425 bux...!

It usually allows a 1 up/down voice change before
going unreadable.

The immediate solution I found, w/o turning the unit
on/off, was to press mode, then patch.

Then, choose the voice from the list
rather than using the jogwheel.

My wife asked me what my problem is,
ignorance or apathy...
I told her-
"I don't know, and I don't care!"

glad i didnt get a VC2

I recently am re-kindling a relationship with my V-Synth and just starting to research the VC2, what a bust this card seems to have been.

"I'm getting that flickering display w/ a VC2 card."

+1 - I wish this had been solved!

My way around the problem (changing programs) is to press any setting in the bottom menu and then pres "top" - it's annoying but it works.
