RD-700SX, SysEx, and Rhythm Patterns... HELP!

26 Nov 2006, 04:56
Hi there,

With Cubase SE3 and MIDI SysEx I am able to control the Arpeggio Switch (off, on) and Rhythm Patterns (0 - 184) on my 700sx but am unable to control the Rhythm/Song Switch (off, on).

I would expect to find the information I need in the Parameter Address Map of the owner's manual (top of page 166) but no such luck.

Basically, I just want to be able to switch rhythm patterns on and off via MIDI and I feel like I'm missing something really obvious.

Thanks in advance for any help and advice!

If I'm not mistaken, the sound source on the RD 700 is SoundCanvas. Years ago, when I programmed the MC-80, there was a bunch of ancillary material on how to program SysEx strings and so on for the VE-GS Pro card that came with mine.

You may have to do a web search to find the article that I doenloaded. If I ever find the paper that I had, then I'll scan it and forward it to this forum. I remember that there was a way, for instance, to put two drum channels into a sequence at once -- but I believe that this was the maximum number of drum channels allowed. I would use Channels 10 and 11 on most songs, because I liked to be able to have two different sets at the same time.

If that is the sort of information that you are looking for, then you might wish to contact Roland Tech Support at rolandus.com. They are incredibly helpful, and they can probably either point you in the right direction, or might even be able to send the documents directly to you. They have tons of documentation on SysEx and MIDI CC stuff that isn't in the general public domain, so give them a try.

Later.
