Loose Knobs...

Is it normal for the knobs to loosen up eventually?

Just noticed that my decay is looser then the others (fantom x6)... Not sure if its anything worry about?

It just loosened up tonight..

Still seeing if it effects usage...

Anyone... Anyone....

I am alittle worried. I love having gear in top quality performance.... And it is loose.. Not so loose that it just doesn't have any traction, but in between really. Not tightish like the other, but not totally loose.. It happened when I was moving the knob... Poor build quality??? I mean I have knobs that are still tight on equipment that's over 8 years old, that includes travel wear....

I never ship or travel with it, and I am the original owner (bought new)...

Just worried that this may be a ship to Roland kinda deal, which is scarey as all hell... I don't have luck with sending in equipment for repair.. It once took technics almost a year to repair my mixer...

I was experiencing some problems yesterday with decay (seemed to go on for ever)... Have to mess around with it again today...

Anyone???

Well when applying pressure to the knobs even in small amounts, over time they may come loose and eventually the soldering points that connect the knob (potentio meter) to the underlying board may form hairline fractures which can result in erratic behaviour in the current context of the knobs. For example volumes of parts in performance mode may jump up and down. When you assigned the knobs to the envelope or filter settings you may expect problems there. Not to mention when in patch edit mode all kinds of havoc may be wrought.

I have resoldered the points a while ago and now they function properly again. If you still have warranty use it.

It's just wear and tear that most moving parts are prone to although I think Roland could have done a better job in the Fantom's case.

Hey lazeeboy,

My knobs are doing the same thing and its driving me crazy, I called Roland to price the knob and its about five dollars. But since you solder yours, Im going to see if that works...
