V-Synth TweakBook Example Patches

These 'Example Patches' are they meant to produce sound?

XT OS 2.02

I've mirrored the settings of other patch system setups with no success. Are these 'Example Patches' for display purposes only?

Anybody else come across this or have I missed the point?

TweakBook.prj is a standard V-Synth project which I successfully loaded on an XT when I had a chance to tweak one. Copy it on card, then go to MODE -> DISK -> Load Project. Is this what you're doing?

Hi Artemio

Well at least I'm not feeling a fool for asking whether these 'Example Patches' are for display purposes only. Just feel like a fool for not being able to get them working.

Ummm... yeah, the Example Patches have been copied to Card and the Project has been loaded.

If I go

Disk>Tools>Card>TweakBook>Open>Wave>Open>Preview

I do get sound with the PCM Waves, but that is it. Then I go back to Disk>Load Project>TweakBook>OK ...nothing.

I just deleted the TweakBook Project and copied it back to Disk, loaded the project without any system setup changes and ...nothing.

Hmmm...

MIDI Channel 2 (Part 2) works! Channel 1 (Part 1) will not.

Sorted.

...now where was I in that TweakBook. ;-)

Actually, Part 1 is mapped to Rx Ch 9 by default.

Oh, this probably inherited settings from my performance setup, will fix it as soon as possible. Thanks for the report!

Not a problem Artemio, thank you for sharing your knowledge base with us. Thus far I have learnt some interesting techniques, well worth the time and money spent.

I have another question for you, your a man with many talents, I see via your website that you teach basic synthesis, I was wondering if you would recommend a book on that very subject. I powered my way through Power Tools for Synthesizer Programming by Jim Aikin, found it interesting at a basic level and are looking for a book/text book that is a step up from there, something that delves a little deeper.

I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Frankly, I haven't read any dedicated books on sound synthesis basics. All the stuff I learned and now teach has come from a vast number of sources: my father who is an audio electronics engineer, some articles from here and there, as well as my own experiments and direct learning with various instruments.

Must be something in the water where you come from. ;-)

Until next time.
