Fantom Cases...

I'm going to start taking my Fantom on the road, but the fragility of the screen is of concern to me. Gator makes some nice hardshell cases. Still, I gotta ask you guys: Do any of you know of either a steal on one of these or a decent quality hardcase with a lower pricetag?

Radon I had a case built for my X8 for about 450 Aussie dollars from a case manufacturer here in OZ called TransitPak

I'm sure there will be flight case manufacturers over there by the dozen.

I have an aluminium case with the 2 sides made out of a black material similiar to drum cases. This means it was a bit cheaper then a full aluminium flight case. Sturdy but not bullet proof.

I also put a pillow inside over the keys and screen for a bit of extra piece of mind.

Get an SKB if you want a roller hardshell case. This was a blessing when i did airtravel. I got this for 190 i think, from GC.

If you--and only you--are going to handle your keyboard and you *won't* be transporting it in a trailer, then you can actually get away with a padded semi-hard keyboard bag. However, if your bandmates/roadies will be moving it all or if it gets stored/transported with the rest of the gear then you absolutely need a hardside case and SKB is probably the best. They've got a lifetime warranty so if you buy one you'll never have to buy another. I had a latch break off mine recently and I've just sent it out to them to get fixed. If they can't fix it they send a brand new case.

I've got a Groove Pak bag case with wheels and reinforced sides/bottom and it works fine for my X7. I made a custom foam insert in it so when the X7 is placed inside it's really protected and can't move at all in the case (which is important). It goes from my house to the gig in the case in my car or truck, and then back again at the end of the show. My 6 year old Alesis 7.2 gets the SKB since it stays in the trailer between shows and the other band mates handle it as well.

I've never had a problem with either and I gig quite a bit. However, like I said in the beginning, as soon as I go somewhere where someone else has to handle it, the X7 goes in the SKB.

GC = Guitar Center.

By the way, I own an SKB case also. So far, no complaints.

Is there a special SKB hardcase model that you bought for the fantom (I have the X7)... I was worried about getting one that was too small for the X7, because all of the ones that I have tried in the store were to small...

Mr. Layz,

The SKB model SKB5014W would be the 76 key equivalent of what I have for my X6. It has puzzle foam in the inerior which can be taken out or reconfigured to fit.
